Volunteers and members of KPS at the launch of Parkinson's Run and Warrior Walk in November 2018.

KUCHING: Kuching Parkinson's Society (KPS) is holding its first fundraiser, The Parkinson's Run and Warrior Walk 2019, on Feb 24 at Saradise, Taman BDC.

Around 2,000 participants are expected at the event including some from Sibu Parkinson's Society.

KPS aims to increase awareness of Parkinson's and reach out to people with Parkinson's while increasing membership and raising funds for the society's activities.

KPS is appealing for more sponsors and volunteers to help achieve its objectives.

Registered participants are reminded to collect their race packs on Feb 23 between 10am and 6pm at CityONE Megamall, third Floor, Mall 2 (in front of Management Office).

KPS holds Tai-Chi workshop to help patients improve balance and posture.

KPS started as a support group for People with Parkinson's (PWP) and their families in 2016. In November 2017, Kuching Parkinson's Society was officially registered as a non-governmental organisation, with Mary Lu, a PWP, as its first president.

Since then, the society has expanded to hold more activities and programmes besides monthly support group meetings. Public talks, workshops, educational videos and posts on social media help KPS increases awareness on Parkinson's disease.
