KUCHING: All nursery and kindergarten operators in Sarawak should introduce measures to protect their children against the Wuhan Coronavirus, said Minister of Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah.

She said among others, that operators should check the body temperature of their children for fever and watch for any flu symptoms before a child is allowed to enter their premises.

The operators should inform parents immediately if a child is found to be sick so that the child can be given medical treatment promptly, she told reporters after attending the state disaster committee meeting here this morning.

“Although all eight reported cases in Sarawak were adults between 20 and 50 years old, we still have to remain vigilant. Take precautionary measures and ensure your premises are always hygienic,” Fatimah said,

Out of the eight reported cases, six have tested negative for the coronavirus while two others are still waiting for results from Kuala Lumpur.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah told a press conference after chairing the meeting that one of the patients awaiting results of their tests was quarantined in the Sarawak General Hospital and the other was in the Miri Hospital.
